Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Jurisprudence degree
  • A license to practice law issued by any state
  • A valid driver's license
  • No disbarment from the practice of law

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with relevant federal and state statutes, case law, rules and regulations, and Employment Security Division policies and procedures
  • Prepare for hearings by reviewing electronic case files and applicable laws
  • Call hearings to order, identify participants, explain procedures, administer oaths, ensure proper progression of hearing, and protect due process rights
  • Write decisions with express findings of fact and legally supported conclusions of law, determining whether to affirm, modify, or set aside Agency Decisions
  • Train other unemployment hearing officers and perform other duties as needed
