Underwriting Technical Specialist, Excess Casualty

About the role
This position actively participates in the production underwriting, marketing, and processing of assigned lines of business. The role may have responsibility over an assigned region or niche area and works onsite (5 days per week) at our Chicago office location.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in the achievement of monthly and annual profitability and production goals for assigned group, contributing to portfolio’s overall GWP, LR, and CR objectives.
- Underwrite and analyze new business and renewal submissions.
- Ensure marketing initiatives are achieved and consistent communication of products and services is provided to brokers.
- Develop existing broker relations and establish new relationships in targeted territories to attract business opportunities.
- Actively participate in client and broker meetings as required.
- Stay informed of evolving economic and insurance marketplace trends, legal developments, and underwriting concerns.
- Participate in special projects and assignments as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and 8 years of underwriting experience with a focus on underwriting and marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong computer skills, proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word; experience with Imageright is beneficial.
- Excellent organization skills, strong analytical abilities, and exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and deliver strong customer service with a professional attitude.
- Ability to interact and communicate with various levels of the organization to address cross-selling or processing requirements.
- Demonstrated contribution to underwriting profit and a proactive approach to identifying niche products and agent opportunities.
- Experience delivering presentations to internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing an annual department business plan.
- Proven skills in employee development, mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
- Recognized as a leader within the organization, providing advice and guidance to others.
- Ability to work closely with support systems and apply basic programming tactics.
- Ability to travel as needed, including on short notice.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship for employment visas is not available at this time.
Pay
Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco pay range: $138,924 – $191,148. The base salary range is for hires in these geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor.
