About the role
The Underwriting Support Specialist is responsible for executing the prescribed Performance Goals outlined by the Underwriting Services Supervisor or Manager within the Specialty Underwriting Services Department. This includes:
- Underwriting Support Rating for new and renewal business, pre-renewal setups, processing post-transactions, and tasks for assigned product lines that support Underwriting groups in multiple policy and rating systems within department or compliance standards.
- Accountable for accurate rating/pricing documentation in the document management system.
- Ensuring accuracy of information input into all appropriate systems and verifying that all necessary documentation is on file.
- Monitoring and processing incoming work within Underwriting Support task workflows.
- Adhering to prescribed productivity and accuracy standards.
- Contributing to team meeting service level standards set forth by department leadership.
- Maintaining a professional working relationship with colleagues at Markel.
Basic knowledge of rate, rules, and forms for lines of business and product lines supported is required. Understanding and expertise to execute on assigned Performance Goals via following prescribed training guidelines is essential.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (Required); associate or bachelor's degree (Preferred).
- Strong written and data entry/typing skills.
- Ability to follow process with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Adequate proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Strong team player.
- Preferred: 2 years of experience in the insurance industry.
- Ability to manage high-volume workload and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- US Work Authorization required (Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future).
Pay
The hourly rate offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average hourly range for the Underwriting Support Specialist is $21.78/hr - $29.95/hr with a 5% incentive.
