About the role

The Underwriting Managing Director role supports 100% remote work and plays a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success as a people leader and deeply technical Underwriting subject matter expert.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate insurance applicants, correlating all aspects of risk to determine whether to accept, modify or decline applications.
  • Evaluate mortality by assessing risk of death, including history, degree of medical maintenance, treatment, and flags of potential future risk.
  • Support the placement of Life Insurance coverage and can directly impact the company's position in the marketplace and relationship with distribution partners.
  • Complete wing-to-wing underwriting decisions, starting with review of upfront underwriting data and tools.
  • Coach and develop Underwriting Consultants and Senior Consultants.
  • Handle additional underwriting requirements by determining value, ordering, and reviewing to perform risk selection.
  • Finalize cases and perform second-sign duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate dependability, organization, and sound judgment by adhering to schedules and meeting all productivity, quality, and performance standards.

Requirements

  • 10 - 12+ Years of Life Insurance Underwriting experience with proven proficiency in underwriting processes and philosophies.
  • 5+ Years of team management experience in an Underwriting capacity.
  • Able to handle advanced decision level authorities without a co-signature ($15 Million or higher).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
  • Critical thinking skills and attention to detail with the ability to quickly identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Ability to interpret meaning of information for others; translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used.
  • Ability to develop specific goals, plan, and prioritize work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • BGA and Trial Experience Preferred.
  • Completion of FALU, CLU, FLMI or other insurance related course work.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with underwriting software and systems.

Pay

$152,370.00 - $186,230.00
