About the role
The Underwriting Managing Director role supports 100% remote work and plays a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success as a people leader and deeply technical Underwriting subject matter expert.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate insurance applicants, correlating all aspects of risk to determine whether to accept, modify or decline applications.
- Evaluate mortality by assessing risk of death, including history, degree of medical maintenance, treatment, and flags of potential future risk.
- Support the placement of Life Insurance coverage and can directly impact the company's position in the marketplace and relationship with distribution partners.
- Complete wing-to-wing underwriting decisions, starting with review of upfront underwriting data and tools.
- Coach and develop Underwriting Consultants and Senior Consultants.
- Handle additional underwriting requirements by determining value, ordering, and reviewing to perform risk selection.
- Finalize cases and perform second-sign duties as needed.
- Demonstrate dependability, organization, and sound judgment by adhering to schedules and meeting all productivity, quality, and performance standards.
Requirements
- 10 - 12+ Years of Life Insurance Underwriting experience with proven proficiency in underwriting processes and philosophies.
- 5+ Years of team management experience in an Underwriting capacity.
- Able to handle advanced decision level authorities without a co-signature ($15 Million or higher).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
- Critical thinking skills and attention to detail with the ability to quickly identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Ability to interpret meaning of information for others; translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used.
- Ability to develop specific goals, plan, and prioritize work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- BGA and Trial Experience Preferred.
- Completion of FALU, CLU, FLMI or other insurance related course work.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with underwriting software and systems.

Pay
$152,370.00 - $186,230.00
