Accountabilities
- Lead and develop multiple underwriting teams, including production underwriting, auditing, and project-focused underwriting functions, ensuring alignment with underwriting philosophy and business objectives.
- Oversee complex risk assessments involving medical, non-medical, and financial information to support accurate acceptance, modification, or decline decisions.
- Develop and refine underwriting guidelines, processes, and programs to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
- Maintain strong relationships with external insurance partners, carriers, and reinsurers while supporting strategic business initiatives.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new third-party data solutions and technologies that enhance underwriting capabilities.
- Partner with actuarial teams to analyze mortality performance, identify trends, and provide insights that support risk management decisions.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams as a subject matter expert to improve digital underwriting experiences and develop new insurance offerings.
Requirements
- Experienced underwriting leader with a strong background in life insurance, team management, and technology-driven innovation.
- 10+ years of experience in life insurance underwriting within a leading carrier, reinsurer, or similar organization.
- 6+ years of experience managing and developing underwriting teams.
- Proven experience creating and implementing underwriting guidelines, programs, and risk frameworks.
- Strong understanding of accelerated underwriting models, digital insurance processes, and third-party evidence providers.
- Demonstrated ability to use data and analytics to identify opportunities, improve processes, and support business decisions.
- Experience leading teams through change and building high-performing, collaborative environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex underwriting concepts clearly.
- Strategic mindset with a passion for innovation, customer-focused solutions, and continuous improvement.
