About the role
The Recreational Marine Underwriting Assistant provides critical administrative and underwriting support to ensure the efficient operation of the marine underwriting department. This role is responsible for policy issuance, endorsements, policy maintenance, compliance monitoring, broker communications, and underwriting support activities.
Responsibilities
- Drive the timely and accurate issuance of Package, Commercial Marine, and Umbrella/Bumbershoot policies by translating underwriting proposals and binding instructions into completed policies, typically within 48 hours of receipt.
- Ensure seamless policy lifecycle management by processing cancellations and reinstatements within 24 hours while maintaining policy integrity and accurate coverage records.
- Serve as a trusted partner to underwriters by supporting new and renewal business activities, including rating, proposal preparation, quote development, file management, reporting, and follow-up activities that contribute to profitable growth.
- Champion underwriting quality by validating policy issuance against approved quotes, underwriting instructions, and coverage specifications to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Deliver an exceptional broker experience by serving as a knowledgeable and responsive resource for policy inquiries, coverage questions, endorsements, billing concerns, and service requests.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with brokers through professional communication, responsiveness, and a solutions-focused approach that enhances client satisfaction and supports long-term business partnerships.
Requirements
- Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Minimum of one year of related insurance, underwriting support, administrative, or customer service experience. (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to pursue industry-related coursework and professional designations.
- Exceptional customer service skills and a professional approach to broker and client interactions.
Skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Customer-focused and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and service excellence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for this role.
