Underwriting Assistant

Responsibilities

• Supports Underwriters with technical and clerical support for new business, renewals, and endorsements.
• Identifies key issues and uses appropriate resources to assist in the analytical process.
• Identifies and evaluates exposures for each risk.
• Performs analysis using appropriate information to consider endorsement/account acceptability.
• Issues premium and non-premium bearing endorsements.
• Follows up with Underwriters and Brokers on outstanding information.
• Supports day-to-day transactions for multiple Underwriting team members and customers/agency partners.
• Develops, maintains, and nurtures positive working relationships with Underwriters, Customers, and other business partners.
• Applies judgement and presents negotiations on more complex accounts and processes.
• Quotes accounts within authority limits by reviewing exposures and experience rating, updating account information, rates, and adjusting prices.
• Examines inspection reports, prior audits, and endorsements, and refers any issues to Underwriters.
• Manages and balances multiple demands.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college course work or degree preferred.
• Experience with Professional Liability or Commercial Casualty coverages is a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, displaying a positive attitude.
• Detail-oriented with initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
• A strong focus and passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• A high sense of urgency and ability to function well in a high-volume and time-sensitive environment.
• Computer literate including use of Word, Excel, and various project management tools.
• Flexible and open to change and enhancements to help evolving in a competitive market.
• Adaptive to adjusting priorities and/or work on multiple tasks.
• A strong sense of ownership and accountability as a result of being highly motivated.
