Multi-state commercial insurance carrier is seeking an Underwriting Assistant for the Passenger Transportation Division based in Long Beach, NY.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to Underwriters in determining acceptability, quality, and profitability of new and existing business based upon company underwriting guidelines and objectives.
- Prepare various underwriting exhibits necessary for underwriter/management review.
- Assist in developing insurance proposals, approve endorsements, process binds, cancellations, non-renewals, and obtain required underwriting approvals where needed.
- Develop account summaries by analyzing and aggregating loss runs, MVRs, and external websites such as FMSCA, as well as any other pertinent information.
- Develop appropriate rate sheets (in the company’s rating system), as needed/directed by the Underwriter.
- Prepare and complete pre-policy documentation for policy issuance, including signed applications, State UM/PIP Selection forms based on various state requirements, and binder subjectivities to ensure file completeness.
- Review policies and documents for accuracy.
- Perform related duties as required or requested, including report preparation, presentations, and special projects.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with other team members to broaden knowledge of the product line and/or technical pricing knowledge.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or 2+ years of related transportation underwriting experience and/or training (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
- 3+ years’ experience in Auto Liability insurance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong math skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work in a team environment and adapt to daily changing needs and job duties.
- Good organization and effective time management.
- Able to handle multiple projects and tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
Pay
The expected pay range for this role is $58,000 - $62,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and experiences and may be adjusted for geographic differential.
