About the role

As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support the Underwriting Team and act as the owner and principal facilitator of assigned accounts. You will perform front-to-end activities throughout the life cycle of renewal and prospect accounts—from submission to expiration—with underwriting oversight. Opportunities are available supporting the following lines of business:

  • Middle Market - Excess Casualty: Focuses on coverage that provides additional liability protection beyond primary policies for mid-sized businesses, including both Umbrella and Excess policies.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-underwrite, evaluate risk, and assess completeness of the underwriting package before underwriter review.
  • Communicate directly with brokers on behalf of underwriters to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis.
  • Apply knowledge of line-of-business-specific product underwriting rules and guidelines to support pre-analysis of submissions in preparation for quoting.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, brokers, reinsurers, and internal units to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts.
  • Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed for policy issuance and premium collection.
  • Develop initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages on behalf of the underwriter.
  • Calculate base rating and apply experience modifications as part of the underwriting package for underwriter review.
  • Manage workflow of multiple tasks and maintain detailed understanding of task statuses across underwriters, brokers, reinsurers, and internal partners globally.
  • Collaborate and correspond verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts worldwide, accounting for differences in language, time zones, and local standards.
  • Utilize SalesForce to ensure accurate and timely input of information critical for underwriting team productivity and service delivery.
  • Participate in projects as a subject matter expert for the Underwriting Support Unit when requested.
  • Perform quality control of coding and issuance output to ensure accuracy (e.g., exposure bases, limits, coverage extensions, modifications, data entry).
  • Collaborate with underwriters, product management, legal, and regulatory teams to perform pre-bind activities and confirm policy issuance instructions, manuscript wordings, regulatory notices, and certificates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Robust interpersonal skills to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups.
  • Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.
  • Organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF conversion tool).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Pay

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 60,600 – 86,200. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location.
