Job Description
The Underwriter/Sr. Underwriter is responsible for building and maintaining a book of Professional Liability business, including MPL, standalone or with Cyber and Multimedia coverage, and Lawyers Professional Liability, both primary and excess. Work includes following underwriting guidelines, rating manuals and rules promulgated by the actuaries and MPL/LPL product management teams, the review of insurance applications, quoting and binding of insurance within the authority delegated to the underwriter. This includes working with brokers in the underwriter’s assigned territory to solicit business and market the company’s products, through phone calls and in person interaction/travel.
- Achieve underwriting production, profitability and other financial targets for assigned brokers.
- Work with assigned brokers to market MPL/LPL insurance products, including traveling, as needed.
- Aid the team leadership in the development and enhancement of new and existing products.
- Communicate to management concerns of key brokers, market opportunities.
- Ensure policy transactions are rated, booked, invoiced and issued accurately and meet the corporate time service standards.
- Transactions include quotes, new business, renewals, endorsements and cancellations.
- Generate insurance quote letters and binder letters for MPL and related products per underwriter instructions.
- Policy issuance.
- In-force account management and servicing.
- Aid in quality verification of all policy transactions, processes and procedures.
- Electronically print documents into the imaging system/electronic underwriting file, page mark and label the documents appropriately adhering to the corporate protocols.
- Communicate, as needed, with producers to obtain information needed to complete transactions, etc.
- Contribute to service excellence by answering producer questions regarding policy status and insurance inquiries.
Requirements
- Experience with Miscellaneous Professional Liability Errors & Omissions and Cyber Insurance products.
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant underwriting experience.
- Strong analytical skills; exceptional attention to detail.
- Solid computer skills including Word, Excel: email & internet-based technology.
- Solid verbal and written communication, as well as math skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and collaboratively.
