Underwrite challenging and complex new and renewal submissions

This individual will support the thoughtful growth and expansion of the Life Sciences Division through underwriting discipline, adherence to underwriting guidelines and appetite, and broker engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the thoughtful growth and expansion of the Life Sciences Division through underwriting discipline, adherence to underwriting guidelines and appetite, and broker engagement.
• Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with underwriting strategies.
• Market insurance products through various communications channels and occasional business travel.
• Develop mutually beneficial partnerships and nurture relationships with appointed wholesale brokers.
• Maintain key metrics and ratios with an eye on efficiency and profitability.
• Participate in special projects and corporate initiatives.
• Support the Life Sciences Underwriting Division Manager with the underwriting strategy, aligned with Hamilton Select’s performance goals and underwriting philosophy.
• Collaborate with internal colleagues.

Requirements

• Underwriting experience with a strong track record in Life Sciences product lines preferred.
• Demonstrated success in generating new business, exercising sound judgment, and growing a portfolio from a small base.
• Strong existing broker relationships and the ability to attract, develop, and sustain new partnerships.
• Balanced understanding of both subjective and objective elements of underwriting risk, with the confidence to justify decisions at senior levels.
• High integrity in all internal and external interactions.
• CPCU designation or other industry coursework preferred, but not required.
• Motivated, self-starter with an entrepreneurial and growth-oriented mindset.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with confident, timely decision-making.
• Able to work independently with strong organizational and forward-planning skills.
• Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
