Assess intermediate-level risks, develop and negotiate premiums, manage broker and carrier relationships, and provide appropriate insurance products to clients while generating profit in line with company goals.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and determine the acceptability of lawyers professional liability risks under limited supervision, including evaluating applications, websites, claims history, and file notes.
- Obtain supplementary information as needed to underwrite policies.
- Determine the desirability of accepting or rejecting risks within program guidelines.
- Coordinate risk assessment with the Underwriting team as needed.
- Underwrite and price exposures in accordance with filed and approved program rate levels and guidelines.
- Recommend and bind coverage, handle invoicing, and issue policies to completion.
- Identify, order, and evaluate additional risk assessment information.
- Communicate with agents to obtain supplemental underwriting information.
- Analyze and rate endorsement requests.
- Issue and track conditional/non-renewal notices and cancellations.
- Adhere to regulatory compliance and maintain knowledge of policy terms and endorsements.
- Assist manager in establishing underwriting policy and procedures.
- Travel occasionally for educational development or client relationship building.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional liability underwriting experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Property & Casualty and/or appropriate business licensure required for direct client service/underwriting.
- Broad knowledge of the insurance industry.
- Strong negotiation and mathematical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency in utilizing company systems.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong research skills to troubleshoot customer problems.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Pay
Salary range: $56,000–$66,000 (depends on experience). This is a bonus-eligible position with a target incentive of 5%.
