Responsibilities
The Underwriter II provides support to the underwriting process, makes appropriate decisions within own underwriting assigned authority levels, reviews insurance applications, processes accounts, and interacts professionally with both internal and external customers. They assess new and renewal accounts, verify issuance compliance, address discrepancies, enter information into systems, establish coverage types and limits, analyze data from various systems, monitor production, profitability, and maintain agency relationships. They collaborate with the underwriting team and other departments, communicate effectively, promote consistency, maintain confidentiality, stay updated on state laws and filing requirements, negotiate with reinsurers, evaluate catastrophe losses, assist with special programs, and coordinate visits.
Qualifications
- A minimum of one to two (1-2) years of experience as an Associate Underwriter
- Excess and Surplus lines background is beneficial
- Basic knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and email
- Capability to learn and utilize various underwriting applications to determine accurate classifications and calculate rates and premium charges using approved rating methods
- Bachelor's degree; or at least two years of experience in a business or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- AIS, ASLI, and AU designations or completion of other insurance related classes is preferred
