Underwriter II

About the role

The Underwriter II administers the underwriting and servicing of new and renewal accounts for assigned agents and producers within the territory, ensuring compliance with company underwriting, authority, and pricing standards. This role maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust’s mission, vision, and values while upholding organizational standards.

Responsibilities

• Write and retain a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing, and servicing.
• Maintain compliance with state filings and adhere to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines.
• Operate within written authority grants and make referrals to Home Office Underwriting as required.
• Collaborate closely with the territory team and keep peers and Territory Management informed of all issues and activity.
• Develop and implement the territory business plan in collaboration with Territory Management, sharing accountability for meeting territory goals.
• Develop, manage, and maintain outside client relationships, including traveling within the territory to meet with agents, producers, and nonprofit associations or organizations.
• Actively participate in industry events such as agency or association conventions.
• Provide professional, timely, and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross-departmental staff to resolve issues pertaining to policyholders and territory producers.
• Stay current with market trends and demands.
• Perform other functionally related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• 2-5 years of commercial lines property and casualty experience.
• CPCU or CIC designation preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time within the assigned territory and to the Home Office as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with commercial casualty, property, automobile, workers compensation, and umbrella insurance coverage, including risk selection, methods, and pricing.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make informed, calculated risk decisions.
• Respect for confidential information.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
