Underground Operator

About the role

OceanaGold’s Haile Gold Mine is seeking an Underground Equipment Operator to join our Underground Operations team. This role involves operating equipment safely and productively to support the day-to-day needs of our underground mining operation. It’s ideal for an experienced equipment operator who prioritizes safety, works well in a team, and thrives in a challenging underground environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate underground equipment in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
• Follow direction from your Supervisor and complete assigned tasks with limited supervision.
• Perform all work in accordance with site safety requirements, procedures, and mandatory training.
• Maintain equipment through proper operation, inspections, and housekeeping.
• Support underground activities by handling and transporting materials such as cement, stick powder, ground-support bolts, and wire panels.
• Work safely in varying weather conditions and challenging underground environments, including areas with water.
• Communicate and collaborate with Underground Operations, Underground Maintenance, and contractors to support production and site needs.

Requirements

• Previous experience operating heavy machinery.
• On-the-job experience and/or vocational training.
• Previous underground mining experience is preferred.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental, and community standards.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to safely work in active mining areas and under demanding conditions.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to wear and properly use required PPE.

Working Conditions

This role is based within the underground mining environment and requires the ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs, access elevated work areas, and perform physically demanding tasks. Employees may need to lift and carry materials and work in varying weather and underground conditions. Mandatory PPE is required.

Schedule

7 days on / 7 days off with rotating shifts.
