Position Summary

The Underground Foreman supervises, schedules, and coordinates the work of underground crews.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversees the project/work site, ensuring safety standards are followed and quality work is being performed in a timely manner
  • Determines project requirements and procedures, and the required materials and workers, based on given project specifications
  • Performs daily walkthroughs of project/work site to confirm availability and use of proper materials and tools; recognizes and promptly addresses issues so that work can continue on schedule
  • Solves problems and coordinates activities for the job through collaboration and communication with other management or technical staff and contractors
  • Conducts audits and quality assurance tests of work and safety matters
  • Oversees and adheres to budgets and schedules for projects
  • Schedules equipment needs to complete upcoming tasks with General or Project Superintendents
  • Covers a 4 week look ahead schedule with PM/PE and Superintendents
  • Conducts weekly Toolbox Talk meetings on site with crew members
  • Submits daily operations logs (Rule 310, Water Truck Logs, Daily Refresher, Confined Space, and Trench Inspection Logs)
  • Identifies and recommends solutions for production problems, as required
  • Tracks and records daily work quantities
  • Verifies and submits daily timecards from crew members
  • Affords assistance with the assembly of work plans for major operations
  • Schedules material through DCS Dispatch on private work
  • Verifies SWPP and dust control needs are addressed in designated work areas

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Throughout understanding of underground sewer pipe installation
  • Ability to read and understand MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments) specifications
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze situations and identify ways to improve efficiency
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Throughout understanding of materials, methods, and tools used in projects
  • Ability to read blueprints and other reports outlining specifications

Education And Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 5 years of related underground utility construction and installation experience required
