About the role
Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Underground Crews (Foreman/A Lineman/B Lineman/C Lineman/Operator/Groundman).
Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who are able to bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews.

Responsibilities
- Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
- Able/willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Able/willing to work Overtime, when required.
- Have total commitment to safety and compliance.
- Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Equipment Operators and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on underground utility projects.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting site plans, construction prints/drawings and scopes of work.
- Proficient in safe operation of heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.
- Effectively communicate, demonstrate and enforce requirements & best practices.
- Lead and record Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meetings.
- Possess advanced understanding of compliance with OSHA Shoring & Trenching standards.
- Effectively lead and record Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meetings.
- Be committed to optimal Customer Service.
- Coordinate essential personnel on-site for the project to include crew mobilization, subcontractors, traffic control, etc.
- Possess comfort level with using new technologies (mobile devices/apps).
- Manage all supplies, materials and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
- Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
- Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
- Possess High School Diploma or Equivalency.
- Coordinate & collaborate effectively with multiple levels within company.
- Willing to travel and work away from home.
- Able to communicate effectively, demonstrate & encourage teamwork skills and able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace.
Requirements
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor as required.
- Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Possess working knowledge of OSHA Shoring & Trenching Standards.
- Proficient in all aspects of working with energized enclosures.
- Proficient in understanding and reading blueprints.
- Capable of leading crew in preparation/installation of pad mount transformers & enclosures, in absence of Crew Foreman or with minimal supervision.
- Comprehensive knowledge of operations in terminating UG conductors & secondaries.
- Capable of executing live switching on UG loops.
- Proficient at operation of Digger Derrick, Backhoe, Trencher, Mini-Excavator, Knuckle Crane, etc.
- Proficient in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging.
- Familiar with induced voltage.
- Proficient in grounding procedures.
- Capable of working in confined spaces.
- Possess knowledge to properly install, remove and inspect Rubber Goods / Cover Up / PPE.
- Understands how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
- Understands proper use of phasing sticks.
- Able to function within a Team environment and share knowledge with fellow crew members as appropriate.
- Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
- Understand minimum approach distance.
- Understand flag and tag procedures.
- Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape.
- Able to effectively lead a Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meeting or tailgate briefing.
- Capable of safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers.
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors.
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor.

- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of de-energized and energized conductors under direct supervision/instruction by a qualified employee.
- Be willing/able to maintain active enrollment in SUI apprenticeship program (high school diploma or equivalent is required for program enrollment).
- Set poles and anchors according to safety policies and specifications.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
- Do all other related work as required to complete the job.

- Able to assist with installing all types of compression connections.
- Able to work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Able to properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
- Able to properly inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE.
- Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.

Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Class A CDL is HIGHLY PREFERRED.
- Those hired without a CDL may be required to obtain within 90 days of employment.
