About the role

The University of Saint Francis is seeking adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate Anatomy and Physiology lectures/labs, Microbiology lecture/labs, and Pathophysiology lectures. The position reports to the Assistant Dean of the Sciences and Medical Studies Pathway.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map.
  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meet required contact hours.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review.
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly.
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession.
  • Create an effective learning environment for students.
  • Effectively communicate with students.
  • Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students.
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress.
  • Evaluate student laboratory and classroom performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success.
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance.
  • Maintain appropriate records such as test scores, anecdotal notes, and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress.

Requirements

  • An earned master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in biology, biomedical sciences, or another closely related discipline.
  • OR Have sufficient knowledge, with a minimum five years’ experience, in a relevant field to teach the courses assigned and possess teaching and/or instructional experience relevant to the courses assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods, and evaluation techniques and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting.
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement, and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.
  • Able to work well with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders.
  • Able to coordinate services to the needs of diverse populations within the time and financial limits of the institution.
  • Willingness to work irregular, and sometimes long hours, including weekends, university breaks, and times when not under contract.
