Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Teaching on-ground (in Fort Wayne, IN) and/or online sections for undergraduate Anatomy and Physiology lectures/labs, Microbiology lecture/labs, and Pathophysiology lectures.
- Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map.
- Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets required contact hours.
- Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review.
- Submit reports and requests for information promptly.
- Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession.
- Create an effective learning environment for students.
- Effectively communicate with students.
- Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students.
- Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress.
- Evaluate student laboratory and classroom performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success.
- Propose plans to improve students’ performance.
- Maintain appropriate records such as test scores, anecdotal notes and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress.
- Assignments may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Assistant Dean of the Sciences and Medical Studies Pathway.
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in biology, biomedical sciences, or another closely related discipline; OR
- Have sufficient knowledge, with a minimum five years’ experience, in a relevant field to teach the courses assigned and possess teaching and/or instructional experience relevant to the courses assigned.
- Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation technique and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting.
- Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.
- Able to work well with faculty, students, staff, administrators and external stakeholders.
- Able to coordinate services to the needs of diverse populations within the time and financial limits of the institution.
- Must be willing to work irregular, and sometimes long hours, including weekends, university breaks, and times when not under contract.
