Undergraduate Research Assistant - Liberal Arts

About the role

Undergraduate research assistants are students who, in the course of their academic training, are employed in part-time research positions, where the student's academic training is based in part on the research performed. This role will research accessibility cultures in the US and Germany, focusing on education and travel for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Responsibilities

• Assisting a faculty member in descriptive, exploratory or experimental research
• Publication activities
• Data collection, data management and/or data analysis

All duties and services are to be carried out under the supervision and direction of faculty or administration.

Requirements

• Classified as an undergraduate student at the University of Central Oklahoma
• Fall/Spring Semesters: Must be enrolled at least half-time (5 hours for graduates, 6 hours for undergraduates) to be eligible to work any UCO student position. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time (9 credit hours for graduates, 12 credit hours for undergraduates).
• Summer Semester: Must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).
• New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes
• If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum required, students must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources

• Basic knowledge of German
• Basic familiarity working with individuals who are blind or low vision
• Interest in German-speaking cultures
• Interest in accessibility in education and travel
• Sensitivity of intercultural communication
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented
• Dependable
• Punctual

Schedule

5 hours per week.
