Undergraduate Student Research Assistant

About the role

Seeking a highly motivated student who is passionate about quantum materials research. This position will involve both computational tasks (running machine learning models using Python codes) as well as laboratory tasks (setting up a quantum materials lab and synthesizing predicted crystal structures).

Anticipated Start Date: 08/24/2026

Weekly Hours: 6-8 hours per week. Scheduled hours will be flexible to accommodate coursework.

Responsibilities

• Set up Python code to run machine learning interatomic potential models
• Run simulations with different crystal structures and elements to check phase stability of new compounds
• Help with laboratory set up
• Synthesize one of the predicted materials at the end of the fall semester

Requirements

• Physics Major
• Basic Python coding skills
• Ability to handle small (millimeter-sized) objects
