Department: Radiology/Ultrasound – 12-hour shifts

About the role

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Imaging Services and following established protocols, the Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations—including OB/GYN, abdominal, and vascular studies—with a caring, professional attitude and strong customer-service skills. The role involves coordinating patient schedules, handling clerical duties, taking on-call shifts, and preparing images for radiologist interpretation. The Sonographer must be available for emergency scanning at any time and work rotating on-call duty (24-hour coverage).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient schedules and perform related clerical duties as needed.
  • Take on-call duty and rotate schedules as required.
  • Obtain accurate patient histories and process images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Perform a variety of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, small parts, and vascular studies to aid in disease diagnosis.
  • Operate and manage Digital Image Storage devices for image acquisition, retrieval, and storage.
  • Maneuver ultrasound equipment throughout the facility.
  • Maintain logs, statistics, records, and files.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Respond to emergency scanning requests at any time, day or night.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Imaging Services.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved program in Ultrasound Technology or a licensed RT(R) with five years of diagnostic experience and on-the-job training.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in at least two specialties, with at least one year of vascular experience (must obtain RVT within one year of hire).
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an acute care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved school for Ultrasonography.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasonography, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Three years’ experience in an acute care setting.
  • Active RDMS certification in at least two specialties and RVT certification.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Abdomen, Small parts, Breast, OB (1st, 2nd, 3rd trimester)/GYN, and Vascular imaging.
  • Strong communication skills with physicians, patients, and the public.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
