Ultrasound Technologist II

Under general supervision, performs routine and specialized sonographic procedures in relevant registrations.

Responsibilities

• Executes basic clinical competence in Ultrasound across all locations and patient types.
• Selects accurate equipment and technical factors on an individual patient basis; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
• Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, workflows, patient experience, quality, and safety.
• Participates in student and employee training and educational activities.
• Maintains supplies and inventory in the area; informs colleagues when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors.
• Documents and reports equipment or environmental problems in accordance with policy.
• Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment, including cleaning and preparing the exam room, disinfecting probes, and preparing supplies and equipment.
• Assists with invasive procedures using aseptic techniques and sterile processes to meet infection prevention standards.
• Ensures proper maintenance and operation of equipment; performs quality control and reports issues promptly.
• Verifies order, reason for exam, scanning protocols, and patient identity; initiates appropriate scanning protocols.
• Provides patient education and support, addressing physical and psychological needs through effective communication.
• Obtains patient history and completes the ultrasound worksheet with detailed information to assist the radiologist.
• Escalates concerns through appropriate channels.
• Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care with consistent communication with patients, care teams, and families.
• Documents patient care activity in electronic health record systems; distributes final images to the PACS system for interpretation.
• Acts and communicates professionally, embodying the organization's SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful environment.
• Adheres to ARRT Standards of Ethics and applies knowledge of Ultrasound principles, including anatomy, physiology, physics, positioning, and patient care skills.
• Complies with Joint Commission, state, federal, and departmental regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program with certification in Diagnostic Sonography by ARDMS or ARRT (required).
• Associate's degree in health sciences or related field (preferred).
• 1-2 years of experience (required).

Qualifications

• RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) or RVT certification (required upon hire).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required upon hire).
• RDMS-V (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Vascular) or RVT certification (preferred within a year as required per site clinical need).

Pay

USD $35.68 - USD $64.71 per hour.
