Responsibilities

  • Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
  • Completes required daily clerical duties, including using ASOBGYN reporting system, Epic patient scheduling, and other computer systems as needed.
  • Performs portable ultrasound exams when necessary.
  • Performs a variety of complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound, utilizing high frequency sound waves to detect anatomical abnormalities including masses, abscesses, and stones.
  • Determines, prepares, and sets up medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures and measurements, positioning patients for each anatomical view; explains procedures.
  • Evaluates technical quality of images, obtaining representative images of pathogenic conditions; processes according to standard procedures or techniques.
  • Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required; calculates, compiles, and records data from numerical readings on patient's charts and related documents.
  • Calibrates, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment; stocks and replenishes supplies as required.
  • Provides technical assistance and instruction to students, new employees, medical residents, and medical students.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired).
  • Communicates with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Affirms the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Performs Anatomy and Physiology exams of fetuses of all gestational ages including Level II scans, 3D scans, Detailed Fetal Cardiac Anatomy scans, Transvaginal scans, and Doppler BPP, Growth and Nuchal translucency studies.
  • Assists in procedures such as Amniocentesis, Chorionic Villus Sampling, and fetal reductions.
  • Performs Gynecologic U/S exams.
  • Qualifications

    • Graduate of approved Ultrasound School.
    • Minimum 2 years training in Allied Health/College.
    • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in OB/GYN ultrasound.
    • Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, their function, and operation of each control.
    • Understanding of equipment and computer systems as well as the procedures for equipment service.
    • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
    • Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures, including implementation of patient care in cases of an emergency situation.
    • Ability to cover weekends on a rotation basis (roughly once every six weeks).
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Knowledge to aid in invasive fetal procedures with MFM specialist.
    • Preferred 1 year of clinical experience in MFM ultrasound.
    • Required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification.
    • PREFERRED: Nuchal Translucency Certification.
