About the role

As an Ultrasound Tech in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will perform specialized diagnostic ultrasound procedures using high-frequency sound waves to assist medical professionals in detecting anatomical abnormalities. Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound procedures according to departmental protocols, completing exams within allotted time.
  • Handle daily clerical duties, including use of IDXrad, SMS, Last Word, patient scheduling, and other computer systems.
  • Conduct portable ultrasound exams as needed.
  • Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound tasks to detect anatomical abnormalities such as masses, abscesses, and stones; assist physicians with biopsies, deep abdominal studies, and color-flow ultrasound.
  • Prepare and set up medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including positioning and explaining the process.
  • Evaluate technical quality of images, obtain representative images of pathogenic conditions, and process images according to standard procedures.
  • Maintain records of ultrasounds, archive and de-archive data, and compile/record data on patient charts.
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment; sterilize instruments and replenish supplies.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and medical residents.
  • Identify and address the needs of diverse patient populations (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing/visual impairments).
  • Perform anatomy and physiology exams of fetuses at all gestational ages, including Level II scans, 3D scans, detailed fetal cardiac anatomy scans, transvaginal scans, and Doppler studies.
  • Assist in procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villi sampling, and fetal reductions.
  • Perform gynecological ultrasound exams.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
  • Minimum 2 years of training in Allied Health/College.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in OB/GYN ultrasound.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound equipment, their functions, and operation of controls.
  • Understanding of equipment and computer systems, including service procedures.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
  • Familiarity with safety, infection control, and disaster policies, including emergency patient care.
  • Ability to cover weekends on a rotational basis (approximately once every six weeks).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge to assist in invasive fetal procedures with MFM specialists.

Qualifications

  • Required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification.
  • Preferred: 5 years of clinical experience in OB/GYN ultrasound.
  • Preferred: Nuchal Translucency Certification.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $44.30 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good-faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations.
