About the role

The Vascular/Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer oversees daily operations of the sonographic department, including patient schedule, equipment maintenance, reporting of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase their understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates program activities to ensure consistent delivery of quality patient-centered care and efficient operations in support of hospital goals and objectives.
  • Leads the development, implementation, ongoing assessment, and improvement of Sonography programs, patient-care protocols, standards of care, policies, and procedures. Monitors outcomes, identifies opportunities/gaps, and initiates appropriate enhancements and/or corrections. Disseminates new or revised policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician. Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians as required. Coordinates with other staff as appropriate to ensure patient care is provided.
  • Engages with both internal and external partners to advance the SPMC mission and vision. Participates in professional groups/associations. Participates in or leads SPMC work groups, projects, and committees as assigned.
  • Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Experience: Three years of experience preferred. Experience with routine, vascular, OB, and breast ultrasonography preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate preferred.

$46.82 - $65.34 per hour (depending on experience).
