About the role

Full-time position with rotating shifts, reporting to the Department Director. Operates ultrasound equipment and performs diagnostic examinations per protocols, applying ultrasound technology for patient care while maintaining pertinent records.

Responsibilities

• Conducts scanning process using ultrasound equipment; moves transducer over specified body area, adjusting equipment to produce optimum images and records digital images for radiologist interpretation.
• Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
• Explains procedures to patients to ensure cooperation and understanding.
• Selects appropriate transducer depending on area of interest and depth of field.
• Positions patient for optimal results as required per exam.
• Reschedules exams due to poor preparation or other issues.
• Performs quality control on images and ensures transfer to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
• Assembles necessary information and diagnostic images for radiologists, completing exams in the RIS and adding notes or report impressions as applicable.
• Assists physicians in interventional procedures, scanning patients, marking body sites, and determining puncture angles while maintaining sterile technique.
• Maintains high standards of professionalism and actively supports the hospital’s Mission, Vision, and Values as well as departmental initiatives.
• Keeps work area clean and organized (e.g., laundry bags, counters, cabinets, machines).
• Ensures cleanliness of all probes, including appropriate high-level disinfectant techniques for endocavity probes.
• May oversee, instruct, and orient new personnel within the department, including mentoring and training students as assigned.
• Works effectively under pressure while remaining respectful of all individuals.
• Functions efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Provides emergency on-call support as needed or required.
• Performs all other duties as directed.

• Adequate technical skills and judgment to function unsupervised during on-call, second shift, and weekend hours.

• Comprehensive understanding of computer operations related to patient information and management (e.g., CPSI, PACS).

• Ability to lift over 5 lbs. and knowledge of proper body mechanics and ergonomics.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles for patients of all age groups.
• Demonstrates skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Proficient in the use of Philips ultrasound equipment.

Qualifications

• Certificate of successful completion of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program.
• Completion of required clinical experience.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certified by ARDMS.
• Minimum of 2 years of ultrasound experience in a hospital-based environment or current unregistered ultrasound tech employee who has successfully achieved RDMS certification.
• BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire (AHA & ARC accepted).

Pay

Full-time, rotating shifts. Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
