Ultrasonographer - Maternal Fetal Medicine - PT - Day

Part-time position, First Shift (Days - less than 12 hours per shift), 24 hours per week. Non-exempt status.

About the role

Produces 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasonic recordings of fetal organs for physician use. This role involves applying non-ionizing high-frequency ultrasonic waves for prenatal diagnosis, including routine OB/GYN scans, high-risk obstetrical scans, nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy surveys, Doppler studies, biophysical profiles, fetal echocardiograms, and endovaginal scans. The sonographer will also perform guidance for procedures such as amniocentesis and chronic villus sampling, work independently and as part of a team, and manage daily operations of the sonographic program, including patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).

Responsibilities

• Select equipment for ultrasound setup according to examination or protocol specifications.
• Operate equipment to produce images of internal organs and record diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, or strip printout.
• Explain the process to patients, instruct and assist them in assuming the correct physical position for examination.
• Select transducers and adjust equipment controls based on the organ being examined and other test specifications.
• Move the transducer over specified areas of the body and monitor the quality of the ultrasonic pattern produced on the display screen.
• Input test data and patient information into the ultrasound equipment computer to maintain records of test results.
• Record images of organs shown on the display module or remove strip printouts to obtain permanent records of internal examinations.
• Disinfect equipment and work area.
• Participate in training Washburn University students as directed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and perform proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care.
• Select and add correct associated examination charges as needed.
• Travel to satellite locations as necessary (20% travel required).
• Comply with all policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program through an accredited organization or on-the-job training in ultrasound that led to registry.
• Customer service experience.
• Must demonstrate excellent technical skills in multiple ultrasound exams.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques for invasive procedures.
• Experience utilizing imaging equipment.

Qualifications

• Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS), ARRT-Sonography, or CCI-Sonography certification (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Registered Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonographer (ARDMS) certification (required).
• Nuchal Translucency Quality Review (NTQR) or Nasal Bone Imaging certification through the Fetal Medicine Foundation (preferred within one year of hire).
• Preferred experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
• Preferred fetal cardiac or fetal echocardiography experience.
• Preferred ultrasound experience with Maternal Fetal Medicine or OB.
