The Role

The Tax Specialist serves as a trusted resource for our client relationship team, coordinating complex tax matters, collaborating with trust officers, and ensuring each client's financial picture is accurate, organized, and optimized.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between clients and outside CPA firms for individual, trust, estate, partnership, S corporation, and private foundation returns
  • Gather and organize tax information from internal and external sources
  • Follow up on open items and prepare schedules to support CPA firms in return preparation
  • Manage estimated tax payments and track all federal and state payments and refunds
  • Maintain the tax calendar to ensure timely completion of all compliance deadlines
  • Roll forward partnership basis and maintain federal and state carryforward records (capital losses, passive losses, NOLs, and at-risk losses)
  • Maintain depreciation schedules for relevant entities
  • Review completed federal and state tax returns for accuracy and consistency before filing
  • Collaborate with Trust Officers
  • Advises trust officers on client-specific tax matters and income tax planning opportunities
  • Support gifting transactions, including valuing publicly traded securities, coordinating appraisal data, and preparing gift tax return schedules
  • Review Trust Accounting Income calculations to support required distributions
  • Collaborate with the Wealth and Estate Strategy group on tax issues related to estate planning and clients' estates
  • Accounting & Recordkeeping
  • Build and maintain tax basis records for family groups across different entity types
  • Oversee bookkeepers and review tax basis general ledgers and financial statements
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all general ledger entries
  • Reconcile discrepancies between internal and external reports
  • Prepare financial reports, cash flow budgets, and ad hoc schedules as requested

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in ultra-high net worth tax return compliance and planning across individual, trust, estate, partnership, corporate (C and S), and private foundation structures
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat required
  • Public accounting or family office experience preferred
