About The Role

The UI/UX Designer (Remote) at LMI plays a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of next-generation software solutions supporting U.S. Army modernization initiatives. This position requires an active Secret security clearance and entails working closely with a multidisciplinary team comprising Product Owners, Software Engineers, Technical Program Managers, Scrum Masters, Forward Deployed Engineers, and Army stakeholders. The primary responsibility is to design intuitive, mission-ready user interfaces that facilitate rapid understanding of information, informed decision-making, and efficient execution of operations in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will translate complex operational workflows, command and control processes, and mission requirements into modern, human-centered designs that perform reliably in real-world Army scenarios. The role emphasizes applying commercial UX best practices and human-centered design principles to ensure cloud-native, AI-enabled software is not only powerful but also user-friendly, accessible, and trusted by operational personnel. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering software that enhances operational awareness, decision speed, and mission effectiveness, directly impacting Army operations worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret security clearance is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a UX/UI Designer, Product Designer, or similar role supporting complex software products.
  • Proficiency in designing modern web-based applications using user-centered design principles.
  • Experience translating ambiguous operational requirements into intuitive user experiences.
  • Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or equivalent.
  • Strong collaboration skills with Product Owners, Software Engineers, and Agile teams.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design, interaction design, visual design, accessibility, and responsive design principles.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and SDLC processes.
  • Exceptional visual design skills with an emphasis on usability, clarity, and information hierarchy.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating design concepts to technical teams and stakeholders.

Desired Skills

  • Experience designing software for the Department of Defense or federal government clients.
  • Knowledge of Army operations, Mission Command systems, and Command and Control applications.
  • Experience designing geospatial applications, COPs, GIS-enabled interfaces, and operational dashboards.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled software, decision support tools, and workflow automation.
  • Understanding of cloud-native architectures, containerization, DevSecOps, and secure software deployment practices.
  • Experience working with front-end technologies such as React and TypeScript.
  • Knowledge of secure environment requirements including RMF, ATO, and IL5/IL6 classifications.
  • Prior experience supporting military users, software fielding, or forward-deployed engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead UX/UI design efforts for innovative software solutions aligned with U.S. Army modernization goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define user experience objectives and establish design standards.
  • Conduct user research, interviews, workshops, and usability testing with Army personnel to gather operational insights.
  • Translate complex workflows and operational requirements into clear user journeys, task flows, and information architectures.
  • Create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and detailed UI specifications.
  • Develop and maintain a scalable design system with reusable components, typography, color schemes, and accessibility standards.
  • Design interfaces that visualize operational data, geospatial information, COPs, AI-assisted recommendations, and mission workflows.
  • Partner with Software Engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible, performant, and secure.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Perform usability testing and incorporate operational feedback to refine designs iteratively.
  • Create UX artifacts including personas, journey maps, workflow diagrams, and documentation.
  • Support demonstrations, executive briefings, and operational evaluations with compelling prototypes and visualizations.
  • Establish and promote scalable UX practices, standards, and reusable design assets for ongoing and future projects.
