About the role
Responsible for assuring the patient is scheduled for the correct procedure at the appropriate time and with the appropriate resources. Responsible for pre-registration of the scheduled patient. Accurate documentation of the patients' medical insurance and required authorizations is required. This position ensures that referring office staff and patients receive the highest customer service available, as this is often the patient's first impression.
Responsibilities
- Perform all scheduling and pre-registration functions to maintain efficient and smooth operations, coordinating procedures based on established guidelines.
- Schedule services as requested by physician offices or patients, provide exam preparation details, and screen for pertinent information prior to scheduling.
- Pre-register patients in the computer system according to hospital registration guidelines.
- Ascertain insurance information to comply with managed care or other insurance regulations, perform revenue cycle reviews, and refer patients to Financial Care Consultants as needed.
- Maintain records according to hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and employee information.
- Collaborate with physician office staff to maintain effective working relationships and provide education for new office staff members.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new staff members.
- Maintain department equipment, record and report malfunctions, and initiate service work orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Qualifications
- Preferred: Two (2) years of medical secretarial or medical clerical experience.
Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills; ability to navigate scheduling systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain and update computer competencies as required for the position.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting.
Working Environment
- Frequent exposure to various parts of the hospital or work-from-home office environment.
