About the Role

The Underground Streetlight Foreman oversees and directs a crew engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground streetlighting systems within an electric utility service area. This role requires expertise in underground electrical infrastructure, adherence to safety regulations, and effective team leadership to ensure high-quality and timely project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain all necessary materials, permits, and licenses for each job.
  • Oversee project work, ensuring quality and timeliness.
  • Comply with safety standards, procedures, and work practices as defined by MasTec or the customer, whichever is stricter.
  • Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections.
  • Disseminate and ensure understanding of safety briefings.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily crew tasks related to digging and product placement.
  • Perform switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines following safety protocols.
  • Connect, disconnect, install, remove, move, and transfer electrical devices such as transformers, regulators, switches, capacitor banks, and other equipment on customer facilities.
  • Properly phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
  • Drive, haul, and operate equipment to and from job sites to assist crews.
  • Train new hires and trainees in the trade.
  • Call in utilities located at each project site.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 or more years of experience, including extensive experience supervising and training skilled labor.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role operates in a field environment and routinely requires:

  • Extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (including in awkward positions), standing, and twisting.
  • Working in inclement weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances and precise hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
