UB Instructor - Elective

About the role

Cultural/Academic Elective Instructor to provide instruction in a variety of cultural or academic elective topics not limited to, but inclusive of the following topics: Robotics, Coding, Engineering, Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring, etc.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program.
• Conduct an integrated Elective class on various topics, ranging from but not limited to: Robotics, Coding, Engineering, Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring, etc.
• Teach students learning strategies.
• Prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class.
• Assist with the planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities.
• Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management.
• Make recommendations on students' strengths and needs.
• Report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel.
• Absent from work requires 24-hour notice.
• Prepare for students and the TA must be prepared to deliver work to students in the absence of an instructor.
• Transport students from one class location to another in a timely manner, ensuring proper supervision and safety of students.

Requirements

• Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in the designated discipline.
• Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school or post-secondary level.

Pay

In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly range for this position is $40.00-$50.00 (USD).
