UB Counselor - PT - Upward Bound 1

About the role

The Upward Bound Counselor provides academic, career, and educational counseling, assists with the college admissions and financial aid process, and offers motivational support and advocacy for program participants. Additional responsibilities include academic instruction, mentoring, and tutoring, as well as coordinating other services like career workshops and educational activities.

Responsibilities

• Screen middle and high school students to determine eligibility.
• Collect, analyze, and maintain student data, including report cards, test scores, and Personal Educational Plans.
• Develop and maintain a file on each eligible participant for education and career planning.
• Supervise and conduct group and individual counseling, as well as personal development activities.
• Organize and conduct career workshops, seminars, and other educational activities.
• Must be willing to make regular off-site school visits.
• Conduct entrance and exit interviews of program participants.
• Aid in program planning and evaluation, review applications for admission, assess educational needs and goals, and prepare budgets for programming activities.
• Assist in the development and implementation of the curriculum.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Student Personnel Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
• Two or more years of counseling experience in educational administration and educational counseling at the high school or post-secondary level.
• Experience in conducting testing and training activities.
• Must be available to work on Saturdays, provide overnight supervision on campus for the duration of the residential part of the summer program, and be on-call 24 hours during the summer program.
• Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree preferred in Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
• Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students.
• Knowledge of TRIO programs is helpful.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $40.00-$50.00 (USD).

Schedule

During the academic year, there are 26 to 28 sessions on Saturdays from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm, and an afterschool program from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Summer program includes four residential weeks with overnight supervision and extended hours.
