About the Role
Performs various duties in either the Electric or Water & Sewer department.
Responsibilities
- Loads, unloads and carries materials, supplies and equipment.
- Drags limbs and brush to street (when assigned to tree trimming crew).
- Pulls/removes water meter lids (when assigned to assist meter reader).
- Assists in the maintenance of right-of-way for properties, including mowing grass and spraying herbicides on weeds and other growth detrimental to utility service efficiency.
- Assists in repairing leaks and breakage in water lines (when assigned to a water crew).
Requirements
- High school student (at least 16 years of age) or high school diploma/GED.
- Valid driver’s license for the State of Mississippi.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to routine and non-routine operations.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Routinely required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must routinely lift and/or move fifty (50) or more pounds.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must have physical strength and agility to perform manual labor for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Routinely exposed to all types of weather conditions, traffic, and construction equipment/machinery.
- May be subject to storm and emergency work and the normal hazards of construction work.
