About the Role
Responsible for facilitating the news gathering process and ensuring comprehensive coverage of all news stories across all platforms including broadcast, digital, and web. Coordinates interviews, cultivates important contacts, writes compelling stories, and updates the station’s website. Works closely with fellow producers, anchors, reporters, and control room operators to ensure technically flawless newscasts.
Responsibilities
- Researches, investigates, and writes content daily for live newscasts.
- Produces newscast rundowns.
- Anchors general news or special news assignments, recorded and/or live from the studio or field.
- Creates and presents original content when applicable.
- Attends and participates in off-site company-sponsored and community events as assigned by station management.
- Starts daily editorial meetings; develops interesting story ideas using strong editorial judgment.
- Coordinates interviews and logistics for field crews.
- Facilitates the news gathering process and ensures comprehensive coverage of all news stories across all platforms.
- Develops enterprise story ideas consistent with the Entravision news brand.
- Cultivates contacts important to news coverage in the local market, including law enforcement.
- Monitors police and emergency scanners, news feeds, and electronic/printed sources for news and disseminates the information to appropriate newsroom personnel.
- Writes compelling stories for newscasts.
- Calls sources and follows up on leads, identifying the most compelling video and sound.
- Masters the station’s graphics system and uses all available information and media to craft compelling and accurate daily stories online and on air.
- Works closely with fellow producers, anchors, assignment editors, MMJs, and control room operators to ensure technically flawless newscasts.
- Produces in-house packages and re-tracks stories when needed.
- Coordinates web content with a digital reporter.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of large market broadcast news experience and newsroom management or supervision.
- Strong understanding of news gathering ethical and legal issues.
- Genuine enthusiasm for work and a drive for excellence.
