About the Role

The Logic tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.

Topics covered include principles of formal logic, application of logic to the evaluation of arguments, concepts of implication and proof, and modern techniques of analysis.

Relevant course knowledge may include:

  • Critical Thinking
  • Philosophy
  • Intro to Logic
  • Ethics
  • Bioethics
  • Business Ethics

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts
  • Assists students with the use of equipment and learning materials
  • Conducts class visits and promotes the College’s tutoring services
  • Maintains accurate records and completes necessary paperwork by stated deadlines
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Education consistent with department needs
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. The role typically involves:

  • Sitting comfortably to perform duties, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers (e.g., typing, using a computer mouse)
  • Occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
  • Travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite, which may require additional walking and standing

Pay

$18.21 per hour

Schedule

Schedule varies based on department needs. Flexible availability required (days, evenings, weekends). The supervisor will work with the selected candidate to set a schedule supporting departmental demands.
