About the Role
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.
Topics covered include: grammar, pronunciation, tenses, conversational English, and writing skills. Knowledge from courses such as Reading and Writing, Grammar, Speaking and Listening, and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Preparation is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring support
- Offer subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts
- Assist students with the use of equipment and learning materials
- Conduct “class visits” and assist with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
- Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and according to deadlines
- Assist with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Education consistent with department needs and minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. The role typically involves:
- Sitting comfortably to perform duties, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers (e.g., typing, using a computer mouse)
- Occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
- Travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite, which may require additional walking and standing
Pay
$18.21 per hour
Schedule
Flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends) based on department needs. The supervisor will work with the selected candidate to set a schedule.
