Location: Western Campus | Reports to: Supervisor, Testing & Tutoring | Part-Time Support Staff, Non-Union

About the Role

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.

Topics covered include grammar, pronunciation, tenses, conversational English, and writing skills. Tutors should have knowledge from courses such as:

  • Reading and Writing
  • Grammar
  • Speaking and Listening
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Preparation

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts
  • Assists with the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student success
  • Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
  • Maintains accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
  • Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

Education consistent with department needs and a minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a normal, professional office environment
  • Work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform duties, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard
  • May require some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
  • May require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

Pay

$18.21 per hour

If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of the Western Campus.
