Turning/Mill-Turn Cell Lead

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations within the mill-turn manufacturing cell to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity targets.
  • Cook up work assignments, machine schedules, and production priorities with the Machine Shop Manager to ensure efficient workflow and on-time completion of critical components.
  • Lead activities for tooling strategy, machine set-up, assist in CNC programming activities, and troubleshooting machining challenges.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to CNC machinists, assisting with setups, troubleshooting, tooling, and process optimization.
  • Maintain accurate in-process inspection records, tool-life documentation, and cell housekeeping standards to ensure process reliability and part quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Certificate in machine shop technology or machine tool technology/machinist preferred.
  • 7+ years of practical working experience in the manufacturing / metal-cutting industry with leadership or team lead experience preferred – racing experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software – Siemens NX preferred.
  • Recent experience and knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, and other CNC controls.
  • Strong background with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, maintenance, and production teams.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Advanced experience with simultaneous 5-axis machining and mill-turn style machines.
  • Advanced understanding of the CNC machining process and process optimization.
  • Advanced understanding of materials (metals), cutting tools, and workholding systems.
  • Familiarity with macro programming, CNC probing routines, and setup reduction techniques.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpret technical blueprints and designs to understand the specifications and requirements of a part.
  • Measure and examine completed parts to verify conformance to specifications using precision tools.
  • Select, align, and secure workholding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials onto machines.
  • Maintain detailed records of processes, tool usage, production output, and cell performance metrics.
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
