Turnaround: Teacher - English Language Arts , Gr. 9-12 (Long Term Substitute) (SY26-27)
About the role
Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional English Teacher to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. This position is expected to start on 06/25/2026 and end on 02/01/2027.
This school has been designated underperforming or chronically underperforming (formerly Level 4 or 5) by the State of Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
- Teach: English
- English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism
- Adapt district curriculum materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students
Qualifications
- Required Education:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree
- Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English at the appropriate grade level
- Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified
- Preferred Experience:
- Teaching in urban schools
- Degree in English or related field
- Either SEI endorsement OR dual certification in ESL
- Current authorization to work in the United States
Qualifications - Preferred
- Experience teaching in urban schools
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali
- Certified in Moderate Disabilities and/or English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s))

Pay
The per diem rate of pay is applied to all substitute teachers, including those in long-term assignments.
Schedule
The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some BPS schools have a longer school day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
