Truck Driver (part time on-call)

About the role

We are looking for a part-time, on-call truck driver to join our team on an as-needed basis. You will operate well-maintained late-model Freightliners with 53-foot dry vans and roll-up doors, primarily covering shorter local runs (especially Fridays) and multi-drop over-the-road routes when full-time drivers are on vacation (4–6 weeks per year).

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors and trailers safely and courteously
• Perform local and over-the-road multi-drop runs
• Climb in and out of tractors/trailers and secure loads with straps, load locks, and doors
• Spot trailers at load docks, including raising and lowering landing gear
• Maintain accurate driver’s logs as required by federal motor carrier regulations
• Handle shipping documents and comply with federal motor carrier safety regulations
• Operate loading equipment and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Work in temperature extremes and sit for extended periods
• Present a neat and clean appearance at all times

Requirements

• Valid CDL
• Safe driving record
• At least 21 years old
• Pass DOT drug test and DOT physical
• Meet all Department of Transportation requirements
• Knowledge of shipping documents and federal motor carrier safety regulations
• Ability to climb in and out of tractors/trailers safely
• Experience securing loads with straps, load locks, and doors
• Experience spotting trailers at load docks (raising and lowering landing gear)
• Ability to sit for extended periods and work in temperature extremes
• Ability to operate loading equipment

Qualifications

Over-the-road (OTR) experience is ideal.
