About the role
This position reports to the Operations Manager and operates within the mission, guiding principles, values, ethics, and strategic goals of Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc. The role involves driving a semi-tractor trailer, loading/unloading materials, performing light-duty maintenance, and ensuring excellent service to both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks according to daily schedule and orders, securing and handling all material properly.
- Transport shipments to destinations in compliance with Iowa truck traffic laws and regulations.
- Complete daily equipment inspections and document findings; report failures or irregularities immediately.
- Provide excellent customer service to Donation Drive Volunteers, including offering tax receipt forms and ensuring a positive donating experience.
- Distribute donations to proper work or holding areas and record donation counts accurately.
- Sort materials to ensure 95% of unsaleable items are redirected to garbage or salvage.
- Prevent theft by remaining alert and notifying management of suspicious activities.
- Assist with facility upkeep, including shoveling snow, replacing light bulbs, washing windows, and other maintenance tasks.
- Train and advise new team members on job duties.
- Maintain the appearance of Goodwill facilities and equipment, focusing on housekeeping and safety; communicate repair and maintenance needs.
- Collaborate within the department to maximize service opportunities and support continuous improvement.
- Prepare outgoing truck loads, including baling, sorting, operating a forklift, and organizing materials.
- Comply with the Iowa Clean Air Act in all enclosed work areas and employer-provided vehicles.
- Minimize waste expenses and maximize salvage revenue by recycling products resourcefully.
- Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition with all safeguards in place; operate forklift trucks.

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred; minimum of 2 years of military service, high school, or related full-time employment may substitute.
- Valid Iowa Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A for operating a tractor-trailer at 20+ tons.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and ability to inspire enthusiasm in others.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull fifty pounds with assistance.
- Loyalty to the agency, its mission, and policies.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule at multiple locations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to obtain a forklift license.
- Ability to use good judgment, discretion, and initiative.
