About the Location
Morenci operations is an open-pit copper mining complex located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191. The site has been in continuous operation since 1939 and includes two concentrators, a crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system, four SX plants, and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.
Morenci is a company town offering a variety of amenities, including company housing or a $750 monthly housing allowance for on-site employees who meet program guidelines. Additional amenities include a newly constructed daycare and community center, library, health-care facilities, state-of-the-art fitness centers, a movie theater, and a skate park. The dedicated Parks and Recreation Division plans activities for all ages.
Responsibilities
- Operate haul trucks to transport materials from loading areas to processing areas at a skilled level.
- Understand changes to assigned work areas and identify potential hazards.
- Perform inspections to maximize equipment and tire life.
- Execute assignments from a computerized dispatch system and/or two-way radio.
- Assist with training and mentoring of other equipment operators.
- Operate other heavy equipment, including water trucks, motor graders, and track and rubber tire dozers.
- Know and follow procedures for start-up and shut-down, fueling, fire, runaway, emergency, and accident scenarios.
- Understand payload measurement systems, over speed alarms, dispatch codes, shovel and truck horn signals, secondary brake, and park brake.
- Safely and skillfully perform tasks such as spotting at shovel, loading, traveling, dumping on stockpiles, and dumping at crusher.
- Have operational knowledge of equipment components: engine, transmission, planetary final drives, main drive line, nose cone assembly, torque converter, differential, and wet disc braking system.
- Perform and assist with operations support activities, including housekeeping, barricading, cable moves, and ground support.
- Perform minor maintenance activities.
- Complete other duties as required.
Requirements
- Six (6) months of mobile equipment operating experience.
- Completion of academic and practical competencies (including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable).
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills, and pass a written assessment based on skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Six (6) or more months of experience operating haul trucks.
Pay
The estimated pay range for this role is $22.50 - $30.00 per hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
