Truck Driver - Hiker/Vehicle Transporter/CDL - Part Time
Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the role of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) in the Knoxville, TN area. This position involves vehicle delivery and returning vehicles to Penske locations and customers, primarily moving box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A holders, tractors and trailers. The role may also include assisting the service department with delivering parts and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to the location manager.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by a supervisor.
Requirements
- 2 years of driving experience required.
- 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required.
- Valid Class B CDL required; Class A CDL preferred.
- Must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in the state of residence.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, work independently, and demonstrate customer service, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
- English language proficiency required (per 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)).
- Regular, predictable attendance is essential.
- Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including an annual MVR check, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records from prior employers in the last 3 years.
- CDL holders will undergo a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and a FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and complete a background investigation and drug screening.
- Must work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, accepting responsibility for personal and others' safety.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to see and hear, with specific vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands to touch, handle, and feel.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg.
- Must legally operate a motor vehicle and safely and frequently enter/exit the vehicle and rear cargo area.
Schedule
- Wednesday & Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
- Casual/on-call part-time position, with hours ranging from 0 to 25 per week based on business needs.
