Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the role of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This casual/on-call part-time position involves transporting box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A holders, moving tractors and trailers. The role may also include delivering parts and equipment to assist the service department. Hours vary from 0 to 25 per week based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations
- Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to the location manager
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
- 2 years of driving experience required
- 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required
- Valid Class B CDL required; Class A CDL preferred
- Must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in state of residence
- Ability to read and follow written instructions
- Ability to work independently, strong customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude
- English language proficiency (required by federal law, 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2))
- Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of the job
- Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including:
- Annual motor vehicle records (MVR) check
- Successfully completed DOT Physical
- Safety Performance History records request from prior employers in the last 3 years
- For CDL holders: DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and FMCSA Clearinghouse review
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and work at the specified location
- Must complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (including past employment, education, and criminal history), and pass a drug screening
- This is a safety-sensitive position regulated by the Department of Transportation; ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required
- Must accept responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to see and hear; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, and sitting required
- Frequent use of hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg
- Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely and frequently enter/exit the vehicle as well as the rear cargo area
