The essential function of this position is to perform semi-skilled work in the operation of light, medium, and large trucks, trailers, tractor trailers, and other related equipment to pick up and deliver materials and equipment necessary for various assignments. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of a vehicle and for conducting routine preventive maintenance checks.

Responsibilities

• Drive light, medium, and large trucks, with or without trailers, and tractor trailers to deliver materials and equipment to District work locations on assigned routes.
• Check truck’s equipment and supplies to assure road worthiness.
• Load and unload trucks at designated stops; maintain records of items delivered, damaged, or returned.
• Transport crew, materials, and equipment to job sites; assist labor crews with assigned tasks on various maintenance, landscape, or roadway construction/maintenance projects.
• Transport asphalt, soil, shrubs, and trimmings to job site(s) or to point of disposal.
• Operate tractors with attachments used for mowing, spreading fertilizer, and sweeping/aerating/spraying lawns and grass fields.
• Notify supervisor of currently needed or anticipated equipment repairs.
• Drive and operate pumper truck to extract/siphon effluent, stagnant water, or other substances from tanks or natural holding areas; transport same to an environmentally approved discharge area.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or a GED.
• Valid state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in one of the following classes:
  • Class A – Any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Class B – Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR.
  • Class C – Any single vehicle, or combination of vehicles, that does not meet the definition of Class A or B, but is either designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, or is placarded for hazardous materials.

Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required. Degree equivalency formula: Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience; Master’s Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience.
