About the role
Ryder is hiring a Casual Part-Time Class A CDL Truck Driver in Elkhart, IN. This role offers a driving career with weekly pay, guaranteed earnings, and a supportive work environment. Drivers operate well-maintained, safe trucks (36 months or newer) with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling at over 800 nationwide locations.
Pay
Drivers are paid weekly at an hourly rate of $29.00, with a guaranteed $750 per week. A loyalty bonus of $4,000 is available, paid as $2,000 at 6 months and $2,000 at 1 year. Paid training is provided, and uniforms, cell phone, and boot allowances are included.
Schedule
Shifts are available Monday - Friday (with occasional Saturdays) or Sunday - Thursday. Hours are either 5:00 AM - 1:00 PM or 5:00 PM - 5:00 AM, on an on-call basis.
Route and Equipment
- Route: Local
- Tractor Type: Day Cab, Straight Truck, or Box Truck (manual transmission required)
- Trailer Type: Dry Van, Reefer, Flatbed, Conestoga
- Equipment: Pallet Jack, Lift Gate, Dolly, Strapping, & Tarping
- Freight: Mix of touch and no-touch, including RV industry appliances & awnings, garage doors & parts, food-grade & home goods products, and telecommunications supplies

Requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Pass a Ryder drug test, background check, and motor vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
- Pass a DOT physical and Ryder road test
- Provide appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position
- Class A verifiable experience in a tractor trailer or comparable vehicle:
- 9 months experience within the past 3 years, OR
- 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years, OR
- 5 years’ experience within the last 10 years
- Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures
- Must be able to operate a manual transmission

Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules, standards, and guidelines
- Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards
- Maintain accurate records and logs
- Load/unload freight or assist in loading/unloading as required by the customer
- Perform other duties as assigned
