Truck Driver
About the role
The Salvation Army Midland Division in Jefferson City, Missouri, is seeking a Truck Driver to join our team. This position involves driving or riding in the truck, assisting in the store, interacting with customers, lifting, and carrying donated/purchased items. Physical labor is a significant part of the job. Basic communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
- Drive or ride along in the truck to pick up merchandise.
- Assist in loading and unloading the store's truck, customers' vehicles, and/or donors' vehicles.
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, maintain cleanliness, and alert the supervisor of needed repairs or safety concerns.
- Operate the vehicle safely and in compliance with The Salvation Army Fleet Operation Manual.
- Evaluate donated merchandise for use and make decisions on acceptance or rejection.
- Politely refuse unacceptable items and issue receipts according to store policy.
- Perform spotter function outside the truck during backing up.
- Operate the baler and stack bales weighing up to 250 pounds after training.
- Operate the forklift safely after certification and ensure all stacked items are safely stacked.
- Maintain the store by performing tasks such as washing windows, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, mopping floors, carrying out trash, and other janitorial duties.
- Clean the sorting room, dock area, and work area at the end of each workday.
- Behave and communicate professionally with customers, donors, co-workers, and supervisors to foster a positive work atmosphere.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and one year related work experience, or two years work experience without a diploma.
- Basic communication skills with customers and other employees.
- Ability to comprehend written job descriptions, maps, cleaning instructions, safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Experience in customer relations and warehouse experience is helpful.
- Previous store worker experience is a plus.
- Appropriate state drivers license (Class C for the truck) and must pass TSA MVR check.
- Forklift operator certification must be obtained before operating the forklift.
- Must be a team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.

Benefits
