Job Responsibilities
- Drive single or double-axle dump trucks with trailer to haul materials, equipment and supplies to various sites.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Drive trucks with specialized equipment such as hotbox asphalt trucks, boom trucks, and snow plows.
- Hauls, dumps, or spreads gravel, sand, salt, oil, asphalt, and other material for street maintenance, repair, and ice control.
- Operates mechanical and hydraulic equipment attached to trucks such as loaders, winches, hoists, pumps and compressors.
- Maintains and repairs equipment.
- Inspects trucks and equipment to ensure good and safe condition.
- Cleans equipment and performs minor repairs.
- Lead and work with a crew of laborers involved in patching roads, cleaning culverts, cutting brush, and other related tasks.
- Maintain records of mileage, servicing, and minor maintenance of equipment.
- Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience in the operation of a variety of trucks in excess of 10,000 lbs. GVW
- Knowledge of City, State, and Federal rules and regulations governing the safe operation of trucks and their attachments.
- OR Completion of a recognized course in Commercial Driver Training which includes practical driving experience and instruction in mechanical principles and allied rules and regulations (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
- A valid Washington State Commercial's Driver's License - Class "B" with tanker endorsement and with the airbrake restriction removed.
- A valid Washington State Flagging Card, First Aid/CPR card, and/or a defensive driving course certificate may be required within six months of employment.
- Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:
- Experience working in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
- Knowledge of the Seattle metropolitan area.
- Experience driving in snow and ice.
- Experience plowing and salting streets.
- Ability to obtain a flagger card within 6 months.
- Knowledge of the Right of Way Restoration Rules (ROWRR)
- Understanding of SDOT Safety Policy
Additional Information
- Required to spend long periods of time driving trucks often in heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.
- May be required to be on call 24 hours/day to respond to emergencies.
- The full salary range for this position is $40.29 - $41.92 per hour.
